Admission to a junior school

Applying to junior school for the first time.

How it works

Current status

National allocation day - Applicants who applied online by 15 January 2019 will receive emails between 4am and 11.59pm on 16 April. If you submitted a paper application form, you will be sent a letter on 16 April, by second class post, confirming the outcome of the application. How to respond to an offer.

Junior schools take children aged 7-11. Parents of children attending infant school born between 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012 (inclusive) need to apply for a junior school place for their children.

It is the responsibility of parents or carers to apply for a school place.

Who can apply

Junior applications can only be made for infant school children transferring to Year 3.

If your child attends a primary school already, and you want them to transfer to another primary school for Year 3, this will be treated as an in-year transfer. The earliest such applications can be submitted is June 2019. Please see our school transfers page for further information.
