Pedestrians - be safe be seen
We all share the road and with that comes risk. Take a look at the top tips to help you stay safe.
Making a few changes to how you prepare can help ensure that you and your family stay safe on the road.
You may see the driver, but can they see you?
- wear something bright or reflective. Reflective materials are really good at dawn or dusk or in rainy or foggy conditions
- be cautious when walking at dawn or twilight. Drivers still have limited visibility and have the setting or rising sun directly in their eyes
If you can’t use a pavement or footpath
- always walk on the right-hand side of the road to face traffic. That way you are directly in the line of sight of the driver
- always walk one behind the other, so you are as close to the edge as possible in an emergency
- take extra care if you can't see the road very far ahead, for example, if there are bends
