Home care
Support for people with ongoing care needs, in their own home.
What is home care?
This service could be for you if you have care needs and live in your own home.
Carers will visit you in your home to support you with essential daily tasks such as preparing a meal, and personal care, including washing yourself, getting dressed and using the toilet.
Some support may be provided through the supply of equipment or technology rather than a carer.
Who is eligible?
You must pay your council tax to Oxfordshire County Council to be eligible. Read the other eligibility criteria for care and support.
How long will the service last?
There is no time limit, but you have to have eligible needs, and it will be subject to review.
Who carries out this service?
Our adult social and health care team is responsible for the care delivered as part of this service, with a network of specialist providers who will provide it daily.

How much does it cost?
A financial assessment will establish if you need to contribute towards the cost of your care. If you are expected to contribute, it will start from the date we identify you need ongoing care and support.
View our guide to paying for your care.
How to get the support
You can request an assessment of your needs. Alternatively, you may be referred by a professional or the social care team based in hospitals.
How we assess your needs
During the assessment, we will talk to you and your:
- partner
- relatives
- friends.
The discussion may be over the telephone or face-to-face. We will look at all aspects of your life, including:
- your physical health
- your emotional health
- how you manage to look after yourself
- your current family and support networks.
We will take your personal wishes into account when deciding what sort of care, advice or information you need.
