Community Connections
Find out how we support adults with learning disabilities to volunteer or join community activities.
About the project
Community Connections is a part of the wellbeing and employment support provision offered by Oxfordshire County Council's Adult Social Care service for people aged over 18 with additional needs.
We work with people with learning disabilities to enable them to participate in their communities independently.
People are supported to find volunteering roles and/or leisure activities according to their interests until they feel confident to continue on their own.
What you could do
For example, we could help you start volunteering:
- with a conservation group
- in a community café
- in a charity shop
Or we could support you in joining:
- a gym
- an art group
- a pottery group
- a running club.
Are you eligible for support from Community Connections?
- You must be over 18 with a learning disability.
- You must live in Oxfordshire and be interested in going out and about.
You do not need to have an assessment or a personal budget to get support from Community Connections.
Where someone needs ongoing one-to-one support and has a personal budget, Community Connections can help find opportunities in which the person can participate with their support worker or personal assistant.
How to get support
You can be referred to Community Connections through your social worker or other professional or by requesting an assessment of your needs.
