School staff and regular school visitors
School staff members, teachers and regular visitors who need to park can apply for an exemption.
The purpose of a school street is to lessen vehicle traffic near the school gate, creating a safer environment for children arriving at or leaving school. We recognise that there are cases where a student cannot walk, wheel or cycle, or use a nearby park-and-stride option, and we work closely with schools to ensure these students' access needs are met without discrimination under this arrangement.
Regular visitors include:
- pupils being injured or suffering from a medical condition requiring parking close to the school
- pupils on the SEN register or suffering a medical condition at the school's discretion.
- visiting staff and teachers.
Discretionary exemptions
Exemptions may also be granted at the school's discretion for SEND pupils with mobility or behavioural issues.
Incidents of short-term illness or injury may also be covered at the school's discretion. Example scenarios include (but are not limited to) a parent needing to pick up a sick child from school, or if a pupil or parent/carer suffers an injury which affects their mobility.
How to apply
If you are a school staff member, a regular visitor, or a parent and feel that you require a school street exemption, please contact the school to discuss this in the first instance. They may request an exemption for your vehicle on your behalf.
