Didcot Science Bridge

This element proposes to create a new single carriageway road bridge with pedestrian and cycle facilities from the Science Bridge roundabout, through the former Didcot A Power Station site and connecting back into the Northern Perimeter road north of Purchas Road roundabout.

About the project

A new three-span bridge will cross over the existing A4130, the Great Western mainline railway, and Milton Road. The road will continue through the former Didcot A Power Station connecting back into the A4130 north of Purchas Road roundabout via a T-junction.

The bridge will consist of a single carriageway, cycleway and footway.

The link road will consist of a single carriageway, and cycleway and pedestrian provisions. New bus stops are also proposed. Part of the link road is to be provided by the developer of the former Didcot A Power Station site.

A new Science Bridge link road will connect the bridge with the A4130 northern perimeter road north of the Purchas Road roundabout via a T-junction.

Why we are investing here

The Didcot Science Bridge element will ease congestion and benefit users of all types of transport. It will reduce the severance created by the Great Western Main Line, which is a particular barrier to convenient and direct walking and cycling routes. It will also improve access for the development in the former Didcot A power station site. It will ease congestion along the A4130, particularly at the Great Western Park access junction and the Manor Bridge (Mendip Heights) and Power Station (Milton Road) roundabouts.
