Museum Resource Centre Open Day
Come and see what the Museum Service does with the objects from the collection that there is not room to display.
The day will run between 10am and 4pm with a design your own tote bag craft activity and handling session available throughout the day.
You can also book on a tour and on one or more of the four talks we have available during the day. Everything is free but book is essential for tours and talks so that we are able to manage numbers on the day.
Museum Tours: A 30 minute guided tour of the Oxfordshire Museums collection held in storage at the Museum Resource Centre.
Talk - Music in the Museum Collection: Join amazing volunteers Roger and Caroline to discover fascinating stories behind the music instruments held at the Museum Store
Talk - Archaeology in the Museum Collection: Join curator Angie Bolton to discover rich pickings in the Oxfordshire Museum archaeology collection from the Palaeolithic to the Medieval.
Talk - Conservation at the Museum service: Join Naomi to explore a ‘Mammoth’ Task: highlights from the Conservation Laboratory'. This talk will spotlight some of the more interesting and challenging projects undertaken by the conservator this year, including two major exhibition preparations and the conservation of a Viking sword, a Roman Minerva statue, and a Bronze Age palstave axe hoard.
