About the e-scooters
Public-hire e-scooters were launched in Oxford in 2020 as an easy and greener way to get around the city. Since then, the e-scooters have travelled more than 6.5 million km (4 million miles) around the city in around three million e-scooter hires, with over 200,000 adults riding them. People regularly use them for commuting, social trips, and sightseeing.
Over-18s with a clean driving licence can rent the scooters cheaply and easily with a downloadable app, and the operator runs regular in-person training courses and an online e-scooter riding school to help people learn more about using them well. There are 220 spots around Oxford to collect and drop off the e-scooters, including residential areas and the hospitals. They are geo-fenced and speed-limited to ensure they are not used in pedestrian-only areas.
Private e-scooters
Private e-scooters are not permitted on public highways (including footpaths).
