Book through your school for cycle training that is free for both the school and the child. Some courses are run in the holidays or for specific groups.

The training starts on a school playground to ensure the child has good control of the bike. On-road sessions then deal with starting, stopping, left and right turns, and overtaking a vehicle and road position. The children also study the Highway Code.

It takes around eight hours and usually runs over two days. All courses are accredited to the DfT National Standard for Cycle Training (2018) Levels 1, 2 and 3.
