Victoria County History Workshop Part 3 – Farming, estates, communities

About the Workshop

Are you interested in exploring the history of your town, village, house, or area? This short five-session series is aimed at people who want to embark on their own research, but who aren’t quite sure where to start – or who have perhaps already made the plunge but want a bit more historical background or guidance.

No aspects of local history are entirely self-contained, and the series is intended to provide a broad overview of local history themes and approaches and of where to look next – although sessions can also be booked separately. Each session will include three short (40-minute) illustrated talks on particular topics, with plenty of time for questions and discussion, and we hope to have a few examples of relevant documents on show.

  • 10.00-10.10: Welcome and coffee
  • 10.10-10.50: Manors, estates, and why they matter    - Simon Townley
  • 10.50-11.30: Farming, fields, and landscape - Stephen Mileson
