Frame Natural Weaving and Flax Fiber

About the Course
Participants will have opportunities to make their own handwoven pieces using wooden frame loom out of Emi’s favourite yarns including her home-grown linen yarns, Japanese kibiso yarn, silk mawata fleece, alpaca wool and more. Participants will learn how to set up warp using kibiso yarn on the frame loom and then complete a piece of handwoven fabric. Emi has worked several projects growing flax plants to make a fabric in different communities. Participants will have opportunities learning about flax fibre. Participants are welcome to bring their own yarn too.
About the Tutor
Emi is a Japanese textile artist and designer based in England specialised in hand weaving with natural materials and natural dyeing. She launched her slow fashion garment collection in 2021. She is also trained as a Japanese Sukumo Indigo Dyer in Japan and she is planning to set up a Japanese Sukumo Indigo Studio in England.
She is also influenced by the study of traditional textiles, techniques and materials inspired by Confucius words, who said: "We can learn new things from the past". She loves to explore different countries and find traditional materials, techniques and ideas. She has developed her own style to express her art which is based in a Japanese identity with European influences.
