Botanical Stitching

A series of materials with different coloured thread stitched into patterns on them and coloured thread on bobbins at the top of the image.

About the Course

This workshop ideally run in the spring and summer time when there are many flowers and leaves in the museum garden.

Participants draw any flowers and leaves on the sketchbook in the museum garden and then transfer their drawing into the handwoven organic cotton tea towel. Participants will stich their design using Emi’s natural dyed threads including blue from indigo, pink from English madder and more.

If the weather is good, I would like to set up the main table in the garden and then participants can work anywhere in the garden. I have run this workshop several times and participants said very relaxed and it’s nice to work outside.

About the Tutor

She loves to explore different countries and find traditional materials, techniques and ideas. She has developed her own style to express her art which is based in a Japanese identity with European influences.
