Reminiscence groups

How museum artefacts can help stimulate conversation, fun and memories.

Hands on Oxfordshire's Heritage

Oxfordshire County Council's Hands on Oxfordshire's Heritage (HOOH) has been running reminiscence sessions with groups of older people since 2004.

In this time we have built up a wealth of experience, as well as a huge collection of fascinating stories from the people we visit.

How it works

A trained facilitator brings boxes of themed items to your group and helps get the conversation flowing. Museum artefacts, documents, photographs and a range of well loved objects help to stimulate conversation and allow shared memories, often prompting much laughter.

There are more than 40 themed boxes of objects and photographs on topics such as 'Fun and Games', 'Make Do and Mend', ‘Sporting Life’, 'Food' and 'Sunday Best'.

We are able to visit day centres, sheltered housing groups and independent community groups throughout Oxfordshire. Unfortunately, we are not able to visit residential and care homes.

Cost: £20

Suggested group size: maximum of 15

Session length: 45-60 minutes
