Working with the community

Information about talks, displays and working with schools.

Talks and displays

We offer talks to all different groups on the work of Trading Standards in Oxfordshire and current topics. We also talks on Doorstep Crime to groups and also to carers. We can also provide displays on various topics for events in the community.

Junior Citizen sessions

Junior Citizen - teaching children how to keep safe in everyday life - has been running since 1991 and is offered free to every year 6 state school pupil. Every year about 4,500 children visit Junior Citizen.

During their two-hour visit the children experience eight different safety scenarios and each child gets the chance to make a 999 telephone call.

Each child receives a free workbook to allow the learning to continue back in school.

The sessions are provided free of charge by the Junior Citizens Trust

Firework poster competition

Every year we hold a competition for children to design a poster about firework safety. We have two age groups, 4 - 7 and 8 - 11. The winning posters are then used for the following year's firework safety campaign.

Consumer challenge quiz

This is a competition for special needs schools. The children are in teams of four and have to answer consumer type questions.

Consumer classroom

The Consumer Classroom provides links to a large number of resources and interactive tools aimed at teaching 12 to 18 year olds practical consumer skills. The website covers a wide range of consumer education themes, from sustainable consumption to financial literacy.
