Arts Award – Discover

The long summer holidays are a perfect time to indulge in fun art and craft projects. Everything you need to complete your Arts Award is available at The Oxfordshire Museum:

  • individual craft packs.

Holiday fun

Wonderful Weaving Wednesdays - FREE

After visiting our new Treasures from Trash exhibition, come to the garden and meet local artist Groovy Su. Try weaving and decorating our giant pyramid made from recycled bicycle wheels

10am -3pm every Wednesday in the summer holidays.

Buy a weaving pack for £1 and get creative to make a rag-rug flower or an Anglo Saxon braid.

TOM Tots – Wednesday 5 August 11am - 11.30am and every Tuesday from 21 July – 25 August.

10.30am -11am. £1.50 per family group

Stories, songs and craft for the under fives.

Family Drop-ins – Tuesday and Thursdays

2pm-4pm £2 per person

Tuesday 21 July – Pots of Pattern

During the 25th Festival of Archaeology, join us to make an air-hardening clay thumb pot and decorate it with patterns using natural objects.

Thursday 23 July – Make and Curate

Make and label your own archaeological display, investigate and draw objects from our collections.

Tuesday 28 July – The Wonderful World of Water Voles

What do water voles eat? Where do they live? Come along and discover while making and colouring a 3D scene of their habitat.

Thursday 30 July – Teeth Claws and Dinosaurs

See real dinosaur foot prints, learn about dinosaurs and make a fantastic headdress to wear.

Tuesday 4 August - I’m Late, I’m Late!

Celebrate the 150th anniversary of the publication of Alice in Wonderland. Make a wooden spoon white rabbit character from the story and see a dress which belonged to the real Alice.

Thursday 6 August - Go Wild With RSPB (10am-4pm)

Come along and meet the RSPB team, make a bird feeder and do a wildlife quiz

Tuesday 11 August - Trash Talking

In partnership with the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum, join our junk modelling jamboree, linking to our Treasure from Trash exhibition.

Thursday 13 August – Shake, Bottle and Roll

Learn ways to transform and up-cycle an empty plastic drink bottle into a musical shaker and a fun piece of art.

Tuesday 18 August -You Deserve a Medal

Are you an ace recycler? Use everyday waste materials to make yourself a medal to wear. Be inspired by our ‘Treasures from Trash’ exhibition. Joint event with the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum

Thursday 20 August - Incredible Insects

Alice met the Rocking-Horse-Fly in the story ‘Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There.’ Make your own amazing insect to take home and see a dress worn by the real Alice.

Tuesday 25 August - Reuse, Recycle and have Fun

Visit our ‘Treasures from Trash’ exhibition and make something fun to take home.

Thursday 27 August - Dinosaurs on a Plate

Make your own dinosaur landscape on a paper plate. Visit our Dinosaur Garden and see real dinosaur footprints.’
