Family backpacks, trails and craft activities

For families to enjoy daily during museum opening hours:

  • Visit our new interactive dinosaur gallery - if you dare!
  • Have a go at dressing up or puppet theatre in The Countryside Galley
  • Be amazed when you put on the special glasses provided in our 3D archaeological display in The Introductory Galley
  • Pick up a backpack to explore the weird and wonderful world of materials and explore plant and animal adaptations. Cost £1 plus £1 refundable deposit.

  • Meet our life-size Megalosaur - as big as a bus!
  • Explore our new garden with its Jurassic plants
  • Feed the dinosaurs in the gallery
  • Dinosaur puppet theatre
  • Discover dinosaur bones, fossils and what they can tell us
  • Learn about the Shire of the Dinosaurs
  • Dinosaur DVD

Forged in Fire creative workshops

A series of workshops using drama, art and creative writing to explore the history of metal objects in Oxfordshire with theatre director and artist Lizzy McBain. For children aged 7-12yrs old. Places are £4 each.

Meet in the Coach House. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Booking is advisable. For all enquiries about children's activities, contact us.

Learn about blacksmiths in mythology and stories from around the world, and create your own metal working hero or heroine.

Holiday fun

Wonderful Weaving Wednesdays: 11am – 3pm

During the summer holidays, families can join in this fun activity by weaving and decorating our giant pyramid made from reclaimed bicycle wheels. Free activity

Gallery Fun for under 5’s Wednesdays 11am – 11.30am

On the following dates we offer a gallery based session to include stories, object handling and a simple art/craft activity. No booking required, free activity

Songs, stories and craft activities for the under 5s.

£1.50 per family.

Family fun drop-ins - 2pm - 4pm Tuesdays and Thursdays during school holidays
