Change the vehicle for your parking permit

Applying to change the vehicle on a resident parking permit in Oxford.

Please note in order to change your permit you can ONLY do this if the current vehicle is in your name and the new vehicle is also going to be in your name.

If this is the case then complete the application for a replacement/change of vehicle and provide the following:

  1. proof of ownership this can be either the V5C2 (new keepers supplement), Vehicle Registration Document or sales invoice
  2. Proof of residency (dated within the last 3 months)
  3. Current permit destroyed by cutting this in half

The above can either be scanned and attached to your application, sent by e-mail to residentialpermits@oxfordshire.gov.uk or posted to Residential Permits, PO Box 905, Oxford, OX1 9QQ.

If the above does not apply then please contact us so that we can advise of the other options available. 

There is no charge for changing your permit. While you wait to receive your new permit you will need to use your visitor permits in the new vehicle. 

What proof is required?

Proof of address

You need to provide a photograph or scan of one of the following.

  • Utility bill or financial statement dated within the last three months 
  • Council tax document for the current tax year
  • Fully signed, termed Tenancy Agreement (We only require the pages showing the tenant names, property address, tenancy term dates and the signatures)
  • Official letter from organisations such as HMRC, NHS, Benefits agency, local Council etc. dated within the last three months
  • Payslip dated within the last three months

If you can’t upload documents now, complete the rest of the form and we’ll provide details at the end of your application on how you can send the documents to us.

You can upload a copy of the document using a smart phone, tablet or scanner. Photos or scans of documents are acceptable, providing the relevant information is clear.​

Proof of vehicle ownership we accept

  • Vehicle registration certificate (V5C) in your name (front and second page only).  

*If you are applying for a permit in the East Oxford (EO), Divinity Road (DV) or Magdalen Road North (MN) Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) your certificate also needs to be registered at that address. If your vehicle is not currently registered to this address please complete your certificate ready to change, post this to us and we will forward this to DVLA on your behalf.  

  • Most recent vehicle tax reminder letter addressed to you (and at the property for which you are applying if you are in the EO, DV or MN CPZ).
  • If you have recently purchased the vehicle (in the last six weeks) then a garage Sales Invoice or New Keeper Supplement (V5C2) will suffice. 
  • If your vehicle is a company car please refer to point 2.4 of our explanatory notes (pdf format, 345Kb) which advises what is required.

You will receive a parking fine if you park in a permit holder bay without displaying a valid resident or visitors permit.
