What’s stopping you?

Can you be a carer and work?

Yes. You can work alongside being a carer, as you will work as a Shared Lives Carer on a self-employed basis with the flexibility to choose how and when you work.

Who would I support?

Everyone is different, so matching is very important to find someone to suit your household.

Do I have to be a carer full time?

No. Carers can work part-time. We will work with you to match you with the right person. Your availability will always be respected.

How will I afford it?

You are paid to be a Shared Lives Carer, and there are also tax benefits to being a carer. We can help with advice and support on this.

Do I need to own my own home?

No, you don’t have to own your own home but you do need to have a spare room.

Will I receive support or training?

Yes. We will be with you every step of the way and are always on hand to offer advice and support. You will receive training and we offer ongoing training in lots of different areas to support you.
