Mortuary service
The role of the mortuary following a death.
The mortuary handles deaths that have been reported to the coroner, or deaths where no death certificate can be issued. The service:
- provides storage facilities for those that have died in hospital and those under the jurisdiction of HM Coroner, HM Coroner's Act 1988 and Coroners Rules 1984
- assists forensic pathologists with autopsies
- provides facilities for the identification of bodies
- is an integral part of the emergency services.
If you have any further enquiries concerning the mortuary service, please contact The Bereavement Service at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
