Witney: Spotting the Signs: Identifying Specific Learning Difficulties

Friday
18 September

This talk will explore how literacy difficulties and specific learning difficulties (dyslexia) can present in children and young people.

About me:

My name is Sarah Woodcock, and I am an APC-certified specialist dyslexia assessor, tutor, and qualified QTS teacher with over 16 years of experience in education. I specialise in identifying and supporting children and young people with dyslexia through detailed diagnostic assessments, personalised reports, and tailored intervention strategies.

Alongside carrying out specialist dyslexia assessments and providing recommendations for schools, parents, and further support, I work closely with children to help them build confidence, develop effective learning strategies, and reach their full potential. My approach is supportive, practical, and centred around ensuring every child feels understood and successful in their learning journey. I also support children with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), anxiety, speech and language difficulties, and other Special Educational Needs (SEN).

The talk: Spotting the Signs: Identifying Specific Learning Difficulties

This talk will explore how literacy difficulties and specific learning difficulties (dyslexia) can present in children and young people. It will cover some of the key signs and markers to look out for, common misconceptions surrounding dyslexia, and the importance of identification and support.

The session will also provide practical advice and strategies to help parents, carers, and educators better support children with literacy challenges, while promoting confidence, self-esteem, and positive learning experiences.
