Travelling to a hospital in Oxford

You will be able to access all Oxford hospitals by car without having to go through a traffic filter.

Many people won't even need to change their route. However, if you want to avoid travelling through a traffic filter, plan your route before you travel.

Discounted travel on park and ride to Oxford hospitals

If you can use the park and ride, we are introducing a combined £3 ticket from mid-August 2026 until March 2027. (Until mid-August, the offer of free park and ride bus travel is in place.)

You will need a valid park and ride parking ticket.

Ticket details

The £3 combined ticket covers 16 hours' parking and return bus travel for up to five people of any age. 

The tickets will be valid on any Stagecoach, Oxford Bus Company or Thames Travel bus that visits an Oxford park and ride site, not just branded park and ride services.

Bus route numbers

The 600, 700, H2 and X32 bus routes stop at or near the John Radcliffe, Churchill or Nuffield hospitals, take the:

  • 600 or H2 from Thornhill Park and Ride – up to four buses per hour
  • 700 from Oxford Parkway Park and Ride - up to three buses per hour
  • X32 from Redbridge Park and Ride - up to six buses per hour

The H2, 600 and 700 bus routes stop at or near the Warneford Hospital, take the:

  • H2 or 600 from Thornhill Park and Ride - up to four buses per hour
  • 700 from Oxford Parkway Park and Ride - up to three buses per hour

The 400 from Thornhill Park and Ride also stops near the John Radcliffe, Nuffield and Warneford Hospitals. There are up to six buses per hour, and it is about a 10 minute walk from the bus stop to the hospital.

Permits

The following people can apply for a free permit that allows a nominated car to travel through the traffic filters. 

  • patients who need to attend frequent hospital appointments at a hospital in Oxford
  • Blue Badge holders
  • disability benefit claimants

The permit holder can change the nominated car as required. You do not need to be an Oxfordshire resident to apply for these permits.

People with a disabled tax class car can apply for a free permit to travel through the filters for that vehicle.
