Child in need plan

A child in need plan brings together you, your family and all the agencies needed to support you.

A child in need plan is there to make sure you get the support you need at the right time. It could be that extra support is suggested by someone you know and trust already, like a teacher or a doctor.

Why you might want help

A child in need plan may have been suggested because someone, or yourself has concerns about your child’s safety and wellbeing.

Remember, a child in need plan is voluntary. It is there to help you by bringing together a group of professionals who will work with you to ensure the welfare of your children.

We meet regularly

You will have been supported by an experienced social worker to put a plan in place to help your family move forward.

Every 6-8 weeks a child in need review meeting will bring you and any other professionals involved with your family together.

It is very important that you attend because it means you can celebrate what’s going right and get extra help where you need it.

This meeting is led by someone from children’s social care.

We’ll visit to find out more about life at home

Your children’s social care practitioner will visit your children every 2-4 weeks. They will take place at home but could also include visits at school or another agreed location.

They will want to see where your children sleep and play and will sometimes want to see them alone.
