Learn to use coloured pencils to create animals

The image shows a busy table with hands working on replicating the image of a donkey which sits next to each person at the table. Cups of tea and coloured pencils in their tins are sitting around the table as well.

About the workshop

Join Claire as you learn how to use colour pencils to bring a gentle donkey to life. Beginning with a simple drawing using tracing or a grid to get everything in the right place. We will use embossing techniques and work from light to dark with the pencils to really build the texture of the fur. Colour pencils are ideal for capturing every whisker of an animal's fur and the twinkle in its eye. Once learned, this technique can be used at home to draw pets or animals.

Explore the wonderful properties of colour pencils in a kind and supportive atmosphere.

Suitable for beginners and improvers.

All materials supplied.

About the tutor

Claire is a self-taught artist who learned by experimenting with art. Like many people she started with watercolour and has since found that she also loves working in acrylics, colour pencil, ink and all types of drawing. She loves learning new techniques and helping people to get the best out of their artistic journey. Claire is inspired by wildlife and the beautiful Oxfordshire landscapes which surround us. She loves a daily sketch challenge and in 2025 drew a bird every day of the year!
