Self directed support and personal budgets

Helping you to take control of your care and support.

What is self directed support?

Self directed support gives people choice and control over the support that they need to go about their daily lives. Key factors are:

  • everyone who is eligible for social care will be allocated a personal budget.
  • a range of options is available to help plan and arrange suitable care for each individual.
  • the council retains its duty of care, safeguarding and risk management responsibilities and other statutory duties.

Personal budget

People who contact the council for care and support, are offered a personal budget if they are eligible.

What if I already receive direct payments?

Self directed support offers several ways of managing the personal budget, and direct payments are one of these.  If you already receive direct payments, this would not change unless you choose to change to a different way of managing your personal budget.
