Summer Reading Challenge volunteer

Encourage children to participate in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge

About the role

Volunteers are key to the success of the Summer Reading Challenge. You will help during the summer holidays to sign children up for the challenge and give out rewards.  You could also get involved in events, displays and other library activities. Your support will help children keep up their reading fluency through the long school holidays whilst having lots of fun!

What we need from you

We need people who are reliable, enthusiastic, organised, enjoy working with children, and confident talking to their parents and carers.  The minimum age for a volunteer is 13 however, if you are under 16 you will need your parent or carer’s permission.  Volunteers 16 and over will need a reference from someone who is not a friend or family member.

What you can expect from us

We value all our volunteers and our commitment to you is spelled out in our Library Volunteer Charter (pdf format, 92Kb). We will be flexible and supportive and staff will be on hand to help when you are volunteering in our libraries.  We will provide training for you before you start the role
