Oxfordshire Public Health

We are a team of professionals whose role is to improve and protect the health of local residents.

Visit our public health web pages.

There are three main activities:

  • To improve health by providing health improvement services
  • To protect the population from preventable health issues, including those caused by communicable diseases, environmental hazards and by ensuring effective healthcare provision
  • To support local healthcare services to provide cost effective, efficient and accessible healthcare that meets the population’s needs.

We deliver these through ten main functions:

  1. Public health leadership
  2. Improving health and preventing disease
  3. Addressing inequalities and championing the needs of vulnerable groups
  4. Working in partnership to address broader determinants of health
  5. Protecting the population’s health and planning for emergencies
  6. Supporting the NHS
  7. Analysing health trends to spot gaps, problems and emerging diseases early
  8. Adding value across Oxfordshire County Council
  9. Strong planning, commissioning, procurement, governance and business management
  10. Communications, campaigns, media, public engagement, community outreach and liaison
