What you need to know

The free frequent hospital patient permit allows unlimited travel through all six congestion charging locations during charging hours.

The permit only covers the car when being used in connection with or for transporting the person attending frequent hospital appointments.

  • we will issue 1 permit per eligible person
  • you can have up to 2 cars on your permit

How long your permit lasts

Your permit will be valid for 12 months, or until your last scheduled appointment (whichever is sooner).

You cannot use your permit until we confirm that we have approved your application. Your permit will not be available to use until the scheme begins.

Who can get a frequent hospital patient permit

To qualify, you must meet all of the following conditions. You or your child has to attend a hospital:

  • in the Oxford permit area
  • for planned medical appointments
  • on at least three separate occasions in any 90-day period

What you need to get a frequent hospital patient permit

You must provide evidence of your hospital appointments showing your name. Evidence we will accept includes:

  • letters
  • appointment cards
  • emails
  • texts
  • screenshots from the NHS app

Ensure you hide confidential or sensitive medical information on the document you upload. We only need your full name and the appointment datetime, and location to verify your eligibility.
