Training and supervision
The Oxfordshire Museum offers a supportive, friendly environment in which to volunteer. You will be provided with training and supervision. We aim to give volunteers as broad an experience as possible, so there will be the opportunity to spend time in other areas of the service if desired.
For all questions and enquiries please contact our Visitor Services Supervisor.
Work on projects in focused and sociable small groups.
Resource centre projects include pottery audits, human bones project, metal store project, updating the collections management system.
The projects may include reorganisation of objects and cataloguing the collections.
New volunteers generally commit to a half-day at first, which can be increased to a whole day per week for the duration of a project.
Volunteers from the Bicester History Society take a special interest in collections from their area and help with cataloguing, auditing and packing.
They recently completed a project of their own, selecting local objects from the county and society’s collections to illustrate the history of the town. Bicester’s ‘timeline’ is currently displayed in the town library.
