Fire cadets
An exciting fun, challenging, exciting programme for young people aged 12 - 17 years old.
Training
Cadets will receive instruction and take part in a wide range of fire-fighting skills and activities:
- Use of ladders for access and rescues
- Fire-ground pumping for fire-fighting and salvage
- Hose and branch techniques
- Rescues
- Science of fire
- Simulated breathing apparatus use
Gain skills for life
Fire cadets also gain valuable life skills:
- Problem-solving
- Effective teamwork
- First aid skills
- Risk awareness – fire/water
- Community Safety
- Support to community activities which can include Blenheim marathon, Oxford Half Marathon etc
Duke of Cornwall (DofC)
All sections of your DofC can be achieved through the programme. Carrying out fire service activities such as hose drills, knots, breathing apparatus search and rescue and ladder pitching will all count towards your DofC.
It is also your chance to give something back through working on community projects.
Having fun as well as learning
Cadets are not confined solely to Fire and Rescue Service activities; individual units can also take part in a variety of additional activities:
- camping
- canoeing
- ice skating
- ten pin bowling
- pizza and movie nights
When and where
We can accommodate 16 cadets one evening each week in term time.
Monday
- Bicester 6.30pm - 8.30pm
- Kidlington 6.30pm - 8.30pm
- Slade Park 6.30pm - 8.30pm
- Witney 7pm - 9pm
- Watlington 7pm - 9pm
Thursday
- Banbury 6.30pm - 8.30pm
