Rhymetime volunteer
Organising and running a singing activity for younger children and their parents and carers
About the role
Rhymetime volunteers play a crucial role in delivering fun, interactive sessions where young children and their parents and carers can sing together in the library. This role is great for anyone who enjoys singing, reading stories, and encouraging young children and their parents and carers to take part.
Rhymetimes give an invaluable opportunity for children to learn new skills. As well as being fun, singing songs and reading stories develops early literacy and helps children get ready for starting school.
What we need from you
Our rhymetime volunteer role requires someone who enjoys sharing songs with children and is willing to commit to delivering sessions on a regular basis. Rhymetimes usually last about half an hour and we ask that volunteers also help before and after the session, with the planning, setting up and clearing away.
Some knowledge of children’s nursery rhymes and songs is useful, but enthusiasm, a willingness to sing in public and a love of sharing songs is more important. You don’t need to be a musical or singing expert!
We will ask for a reference when you apply for the role, and you will need to be at least 18 years old.
What you can expect from us
We value all our volunteers and our commitment to you is spelled out in our Library Volunteer Charter (pdf format, 92Kb). We will be flexible and supportive and staff will be on hand to help when you are volunteering in our libraries. We will provide training for you before you start the role.
How to apply
We appreciate the support volunteers provide. If you are interested in applying, please fill in the online application form.
