Extra funding for your early years provider

Your childcare provider may be entitled to up to £570 per year of funding to support your child's development, learning and care.

The Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) provides extra funding for children whose parents are in receipt of certain benefits or children who have been in care or adopted from care. 

How this funding will help your child

It will help your child to have extra equipment and resources, such as additional staff training on early language.

Your childcare provider will have to demonstrate to Ofsted how they have used the funds to improve the education of children receiving the EYPP.

Eligibility for funding

Nine to 23 months, 2, 3 and 4 year olds in state-funded early education will attract EYPP funding if they meet at least one of the following criteria.

• you receive Income Support
• you receive income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
• you receive income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• you receive support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• you receive the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
• Universal Credit (provided they have an annual net earned income equivalent to and not exceeding £7,400, assessed on up to three of the parents' most recent Universal Credit assessment periods)
• your child has been in local-authority care for 1 day or more in England or Wales
• your child has been adopted from care in England or Wales
• your child has left care under a special guardianship order or residence order in England or Wales

Four year olds in primary school reception classes who already receive the school-age pupil premium are not eligible for EYPP funding.

When your child is eligible for EYPP

Providing the above criteria are met, your provider will be able to claim Early Years Pupil Premium alongside your Early Education Funded hours. 

For children aged 9 to 23 months, this will be from the term after your child turns 9 months. For children aged 2, this will apply from the term after their second birthday. 

For children aged 3 and 4, this will be from the term after your child turns 3. 

If your child goes to more than one setting

The setting (preschool, nursery or childminder) will claim EYPP in proportion to the number of funded hours the child is with them. If your child goes to a maintained nursery, the nursery will receive all of this funding.

Talk to your childcare provider about what document you need to complete, and they can then apply on your behalf

If you don't apply

Applying for this funding is voluntary, but if you don't apply, your provider will not receive the extra funding.
