Fire Station Open Doors – On Call Recruitment
Discover what it takes to be an on-call firefighter
Our Fire Station Open Doors events give you the opportunity to visit your local fire station, meet firefighters, and learn more about this rewarding role within Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Whether you're actively considering applying or simply want to find out more, our crews will be on hand to answer your questions and provide an insight into life as an on-call firefighter.
What you'll learn about
During your visit, you'll have the chance to find out more about:
- The role of an on-call firefighter
- The types of incidents firefighters attend
- Availability requirements and responding from home or work
- Training commitments and ongoing development opportunities
- Fitness expectations
- The recruitment and application process
- Balancing firefighting alongside work, family and other commitments
No appointment needed
Simply turn up at your local participating fire station between 7pm and 9pm.
Open Doors - first Tuesday of every month
The following stations welcome visitors on the first Tuesday of each month:
- Abingdon

- Eynsham
- Kidlington
- Slade

Open Doors - first Wednesday of every month
The following stations welcome visitors on the first Wednesday of each month:

- Chipping Norton
- Faringdon
- Goring
- Henley-on-Thames
- Hook Norton

- Watlington
- Wheatley
