Disability benefit claimant

What you need to know

The free disability benefit claimant permit allows unlimited travel through all six congestion charging locations during charging hours. 

The permit only covers the car when being used in connection with or for transporting the person receiving mobility-related disability benefits.

  • you are limited to 1 permit
  • you can have up to 2 cars on your permit

How long your permit lasts

Your permit will be valid for 12 months, or until your benefit expiry date (whichever is sooner). 

You cannot use your permit until we confirm that we have approved your application. Your permit will not be available to use until the scheme begins.

Who can get a disability benefit claimant permit

To qualify, you or your child (if you are the parent or legal guardian) must receive one of these benefits:

  • mobility part of the Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)

What you need to get a disability benefit claimant permit

You must provide a copy of your benefit award letter showing that you or your child receives one of these benefits:

  • mobility part of the Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) 

You do not qualify if your benefit has expired or if you are in the process of applying for it.
