Early help
Early help provides coordinated support for children and families with additional or complex needs.
All agencies working with children must listen to concerns and offer the right support, which may include a Team Around the Family (TAF) meeting.

Locality community support service (LCSS)
LCSS provides guidance and support to parents and professionals concerned about a child.
If you are worried that a child is at risk of harm
Call the multi-agency safeguarding hub (MASH) immediately.Call if you suspect abuse, severe neglect, health risks, abandonment, or if a child is frightened to return home.MASH assesses concerns and refers cases to Children’s Social Care if needed. Others are directed to Early Help services.
Types of harm
- Neglect: Not meeting a child’s basic needs.
- Emotional abuse: Persistent emotional harm.
- Physical abuse: Any act causing physical harm. Physical punishment is not allowed in the UK.
- Criminal exploitation: Forcing or tricking a child into crime.

Equality and safety
Everyone in the UK has equal rights and freedoms protected by law.
Men and women share equal rights and often occupy the same public and social spaces.
UK laws on marriage and relationships
- Adults (18 and older) can marry whomever they choose, except close relatives or those who are already married.
- Same-sex marriage is legal.
- Either partner can initiate divorce proceedings.
- The legal age for sex is 16, regardless of gender or orientation.
