Contents
From 14 January 2026, you must book in advance before visiting a household waste recycling centre.
How to book your visit
Online
You do not need an account to book online. However, you will need access to an email address to book online. Need help setting up an email account?
You can book a slot up to two weeks in advance, or up to 30 minutes before your visit, subject to availability. For asbestos (household only), you must book at least 48 hours in advance.
Each slot is:
- 15 minutes for cyclists and car drivers
- 30 minutes for vans or cars towing a trailer
By phone
If you are unable to access our online booking system, contact our customer service centre for help with booking.
Who can visit
Anyone can book a visit to dispose of household waste. However, we charge £15 per booking for non-Oxfordshire residents.
In addition, non-Oxfordshire residents cannot:
- dispose of any DIY waste for free
- book an asbestos visit or dispose of asbestos waste
- use a vehicle that requires a van and trailer permit
What we ask when you book
On the booking form, we ask for your:
- full name
- email address
- phone number
- address
- vehicle type and registration (confirmed with the DVLA database)
If applicable, you need to tell us if you:
- are using a hire vehicle
- have a van and trailer permit
Booking types
We offer three types of booking:
- household (including DIY)
- asbestos (household only)
- charity
Asbestos
You must make an asbestos (household only) booking at least 48 hours in advance. We only accept asbestos waste at:
- Ardley
- Dix Pit
- Redbridge
Describe your waste
We will ask you to select the waste you are bringing from a list. Be as specific as possible so that staff can better assist you during your visit. Use our waste wizard to find out where you can take your waste.
DIY waste
You can only claim your free allowance for DIY waste every 7 days. The booking system will display the number of DIY waste visits you've made in the last 7 days. You must pay for any DIY waste over your allowance.
What you must bring to your visit
When you come for your booked slot, you must:
- bring proof of your address
- arrive in the vehicle you specified in your booking form
When you arrive at the recycling centre, our staff will compare the vehicle you arrive in with the vehicle details on your booking.
We may refuse you access if you do not provide proof of address or arrive in a vehicle different from the one specified in your booking.
Proof of address
Documents we accept as proof of address include:
- a driving licence
- a recent utility bill
- a recent council tax bill
Visit our van and trailer permit pages for details about the types of vehicles you can use to access a centre.
How to change or cancel your booking
You can change the date and time or cancel your booking up to 30 minutes before your slot. Use the links provided in your confirmation email or the button on this page.
You cannot change the selected centre or the vehicle you are using after booking. You must cancel your booking and make a new one.
Contact Waste Management if you have difficulty booking a new slot for a new vehicle.
Please cancel a slot you no longer need so that someone else can use it.
What happens if you arrive without a booking
If you arrive without a booking from 14 January 2026, we may ask you to:
- make a booking on site (subject to availability)
- come back after making a booking
How to book a charity visit
To dispose of household items at our recycling centres, charities must:
- have a valid charity permit approved by the Waste Management Team
- have tried to sell the items through their charity shop
- not dispose of DIY waste (we treat this as commercial waste, so you must dispose of it accordingly)
The same vehicle restrictions apply as for the van and trailer permit scheme.
When booking for a charity, you must provide:
- the charity number
- charity permit number
You will also need to describe the type of waste you are disposing of.
Why we are asking you to book your visit
We have introduced a booking system for our Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) to:
- better manage the flow of customers, reducing queues and local disruption
- allow site teams more time to proactively assist customers and maximise the amount of material sent for recycling
- reduce the disposal of residual waste, which is far more costly
- enable direct, targeted communication with customers on matters related to their scheduled visit
- help with the identification and prevention of trade abuse
