Travelling to an Oxford hospital
You can access all Oxford hospitals by car without travelling through a congestion charge location.
Many people won’t even need to change their route. However, if you want to make sure you avoid travelling through a congestion charge location plan your route before you travel.
Free travel on park and rides to Oxford hospitals
If you are able to use the park and ride, journeys to and from the hospitals are free from the 29 October.
- You will need a valid park and ride parking ticket.
- Up to two adults and three children under 16 years of age can travel for free.
- The tickets will be valid on any Stagecoach, Oxford Bus Company or Thames Travel bus that visits an Oxford park and ride site, not just branded park and ride services.
The 600, 700, H2, X3 and X32 bus routes stop at or near the John Radcliffe, Churchill or Nuffield hospitals, take the:
- 600 or H2 from Thornhill Park and Ride – up to four buses per hour
- 700 from Oxford Parkway Park and Ride - up to three buses per hour
- X3 or X32 from Redbridge Park and Ride - up to five buses per hour
The H2, 600 and 700 bus routes stop at or near the Warneford Hospital, take the:
- H2 or 600 from Thornhill Park and Ride - up to four buses per hour
- 700 from Oxford Parkway Park and Ride - up to three buses per hour
The 400 from Thornhill Park and Ride also stops near the John Radcliffe, Nuffield and Warneford Hospitals. There are up to six buses per hour and it is around a ten minute walk from the bus stop to the hospitals.
Permits
The following people can apply for a free permit that allows a nominated car to travel through the congestion charge locations. The permit holder can change the nominated car as required. You do not need to be an Oxfordshire resident to apply for these permits.
- Patients who need to attend frequent hospital appointments at a hospital in Oxford
- Blue Badge holders
- Disability benefit claimants
People with a disabled tax class car can apply for a free permit to travel through the filters for that vehicle.
