Current quiet lane sites

A variety of quiet lanes have already been introduced in Oxfordshire, in response to local concerns about motorised traffic flows, speeds, and road safety. They range from signage only to gated roads and full road closures. The new policy approved in May 2026 will make sure future quiet lanes are delivered in a consistent way. These historical quiet lanes will not be changed as part of the new pilot programme.

Signage only 

These quiet lanes, located in the Chilterns area of south Oxfordshire, have official legal quiet lane designations and signs. They were introduced in the early 2000s as part of the Country Ways project.

• Road between Ipsden and Hailey 
• Well Place Road (Ipsden) 
• Road between Ipsden and Braziers Park Road 
• The Street (Ipsden) 
• Braziers Lane (near Ipsden) 
• Berins Hill (Ipsden to Stoke Row)

Access-only restriction with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera enforcement:

• Baldon Lane, between B480 and A4074 (South Oxfordshire) – approved as part of a wider package of ANPR-enforced restrictions but not yet implemented.
