Before you pay

There are two road charging schemes in Oxford. If you pay the wrong charge, you may get a fine.

1.  The congestion charge

The congestion charge is:

  • at six points on busy main roads (view the map)
  • signed with a red 'C' symbol
a road sign showing a large C in a circle and text reading '7am to 7pm charge for cars only. pay online by midnight tomorrow.

2. The zero emission zone

The zero emission zone is:

  • on very minor, narrow roads in the heart of the city centre (view the map)
  • in an area with no car parking, except for blue badge holders
  • signed with a green 'ZEZ' symbol
Green road sign with white lettering reading ZEZ.

Which charge do you want to pay?

Pay the congestion charge

Pay the zero emission zone charge

You'll need to pay both charges if you've driven in the ZEZ and through a congestion charge point.
