Henley Half Marathon, 5k and 10k run

Statement of reasons

Henley Half Marathon, 5k & 10k run are to be held together on Sunday 18 October 2026. The County Council is satisfied that, because of the large number of participants (approximately 2000) and the nature of the event, it is appropriate for them to be held partly on roads in Henley-on-Thames and it is not reasonably practicable for it to be conducted wholly off-road. The event is managed (on behalf of Henley Rugby Football Club) by Craig Thornton, Krono:Sports Ltd, Unit g8b, Grove Park Studios, 188-192 Sutton Court Road, London, W4 3HR.

To reduce danger to participants, onlookers and all road users, closure of parts of the A4155 Marlow Road, A4155 and A4130 New Street and Thames Side is needed. This is because of the initial surge of runners onto the Marlow Road from the start of both runs at Henley Rugby Club. The runners and onlookers take up such road space that a danger would otherwise be posed to themselves and other road users. The mass of runners will reduce because of their varying speeds to such an extent that they become sufficiently spaced out to enable runners and traffic to use the road together.
