Implementing the approach

How the Marmot Approach is being implemented
Partners are working together to improve health and reduce inequalities experienced by residents.
The Marmot Place approach is about strengthening and connecting the wide range of work that is already happening, while identifying where more coordinated or innovative action is needed to address inequalities.
To support delivery, there are clear system-wide governance and partnership arrangements. This includes two groups with distinct but complementary roles, providing leadership, coordination and oversight to ensure the Marmot approach is embedded across organisations and translated into meaningful action.
The work is also overseen by the Oxfordshire Health and Wellbeing board, aiming to ensure the right conditions are in place for a fairer, healthier county.
Marmot Place Steering Group
The Marmot Place Steering Group brings together a range of local partners to oversee and coordinate delivery of the Marmot Place work. It helps make sure the approach to embedding the 8 Marmot Principles reflects local priorities is informed by community insight, and that it supports organisations across the system to work together to reduce unfair differences in health and wellbeing.
The group reports to the Oxfordshire Health and Wellbeing Board and focuses on implementation, shared learning, and keeping the work grounded in what matters locally.
Marmot Advisory Group
The Marmot Advisory Group, chaired by Professor Sir Michael Marmot provides strategic leadership, expert advice and challenge to Oxfordshire’s Marmot Place work. Made up of senior leaders from across sectors, it helps set direction, strengthens system‑wide commitment, and maximises the impact of the programme for local communities.
The group focuses on strategic oversight, cross‑sector leadership and supporting organisations to turn the Marmot principles into action.
