Children attending our Area Music Centres can learn to play music with others in a fun, engaging and social atmosphere.
Bicester Music Centre has a range of ensembles to suit every child, from complete beginners who would like to learn a new instrument to more experienced players up to grade 5 standard.

Activities
Bicester Junior Orchestra
Suitable for players of any instrument after their first term of learning.
Super Strings
Beginner class for children who would like to learn a string instrument (violin, viola or cello). You will learn the basics of the instrument and take part in combined rehearsals and performances with the full orchestra. Instrument loan is included in the cost of the ensemble for the first year of learning.
Super Strings is suitable for children in school year 3 upwards. Younger children (aged 2-7) are very welcome to join the Bicester StringBeans group – please see this page for more information including the link to sign up for StringBeans.
Wonderful Winds
Beginner class for children who want to learn a woodwind instrument (flute, clarinet or saxophone) or brass instrument (cornet, trumpet, tenor horn, baritone or trombone). You will learn the basics of the instrument and participate in combined rehearsals and performances with the full orchestra. Instrument loan is included in the cost of the ensemble for the first year of learning.
Instrument options and recommended minimum school years:
- Woodwind – flute (Year 3+), clarinet (Year 4+) or saxophone (Year 5+)
- Brass - cornet, tenor horn, baritone or trombone (all Year 4+)
Music Explorers
Members of all the ensembles will come together during the morning for a fun workshop exploring different instruments and styles of music. The theme for the autumn term is djembe drumming.
Costs and membership
- £8.20 per session
- Free for pupils of St Edburg’s Primary School
There will be 30 sessions offered during the academic year.
