Our role in waste management

Our responsibilities regarding the disposal of waste in Oxfordshire.

landfill site

Our Waste Management Group is a Waste Disposal Authority. This means that we are responsible for the county's landfill sites and its seven waste recycling centres, for the disposal of household waste.

Currently, we send our household waste to four different landfill sites. We also organise 'reduce, reuse and recycle' initiatives for households, businesses and communities across Oxfordshire.

In 20011/12 we spent a total of £22.4 million on waste management services. This equated to £75.35 per tonne, within the top quartile nationally when the average across the country was £81.98 during the same time period

By diverting waste from landfill, we are not only making a difference to the local environment; it is also a more cost-effective way of dealing with waste.

Waste collection

The five district councils across Oxfordshire are Waste Collection Authorities, picking up waste and recyclable materials from the kerbside and transporting it to landfill, or recycling and treatment facilities.

Your local district council is responsible for kerbside recycling boxes, and for collecting waste from your household, including bulky household waste collections.

Oxfordshire Waste Partnership

Oxfordshire County Council is also a partner authority in the Oxfordshire Waste Partnership.

The Oxfordshire Waste Partnership is a partnership of the county and district councils of Oxfordshire who are working together to continuously improve the waste management services within the county.
