Fostering

Foster Care Fortnight

Every year, Foster Care Fortnight is a chance to talk about fostering and the important role foster carers play in the lives of children and young people in Oxfordshire.

From 11 to 24 May 2026, we will be sharing local stories, answering common questions, and hosting a series of drop‑in events across the county for anyone who wants to find out more.

This year’s theme, #ThisIsFostering, highlights the wide range of fostering experiences found in our communities, because fostering looks different for everyone.

Stories from across Oxfordshire

Across Oxfordshire, there are more children and young people who need local foster care homes that can offer support, stability and care.

Throughout the fortnight, we’ll be sharing stories and insights from local foster carers, alongside voices from people with lived experience of foster care. These stories offer an honest look at fostering, including the challenges as well as the rewards, and bring fostering to life by showing the many different ways people choose to foster.

“I didn’t realise how many different ways there were to foster, or how much support was available.”

Breaking down common myths

Many people have questions or concerns about fostering, and it’s common to make assumptions about who can foster and what it involves.

As part of Foster Care Fortnight, we’ll be helping to break down some of the most common myths and concerns, and sharing clear, straightforward information to help people better understand fostering.
