Telecare service

Countywide service providing Telecare alarm equipment to vulnerable and older adults.

What the Telecare service provides

  • The provision, installation, removal and maintenance of alarm and associated Telecare equipment.
  • 24/7 emergency visiting response service.
  • Monitoring centre.

The service aims to:

  • provide alarm systems to support the independence of people living in their own homes irrespective of tenure
  • support people who may need to summon the help of an emergency response with an alarm/alert system.

Eligibility

The service is available to those 18 years and older but is primarily aimed at older people. The service requires a financial assessment to be carried out. 

Available to those assessed as ‘vulnerable’ - this can be defined as any of the following.

  • At risk of falls
  • Mental health issues
  • Memory problems/dementia
  • Sensory impairment
  • Medical health issues
  • Poor mobility
  • Recent hospital discharge
  • Helping to avoid unnecessary hospital admission
  • Supports/maintain independence
  • Physical disabilities
  • Learning disabilities
  • Addresses needs of unpaid carer

The service packages

Level 1 - £5 per week

This package provides:

  • an alarm base unit and trigger/sensors 
  • access to a monitoring centre, registered and accredited by the Telecare Services Association 24/7 voice response to alarms calls only
  • access level 2 service for a maximum of six weeks.

Named responders

The service user will need to provide names and contact numbers for at least two responders. These can be family, friends, carers or neighbours. They need to be able to respond appropriately when contacted.

Emergency services

If the alarm is activated, and it is obvious that a response is required from an emergency service, they shall be called as well as the named responder(s).

Temporary access level 2 service

The level 2 service is available for a maximum of six weeks in any one rolling calendar year. For example, if the service user's carer is on holiday. There is no additional charge.

If the service user exceeds the six weeks, we'll complete needs and financial assessment for a long-term increased level of need.

Level 2 - £10 per week

This package provides:

  • an alarm base unit and trigger/sensors
  • access to a monitoring centre registered and accredited by the Telecare Services Association
  • 24/7 emergency visiting response by care staff
  • a key safe if needed.

The provider is registered with the Care Quality Commission (including lifting aids with trained staff to Oxfordshire Shared Care protocols). 

The service users are not required to provide named responders at this level of service.
