This scheme forms part of the strategic transport infrastructure in Didcot and will extend the existing A4130 Didcot Northern Perimeter Road (NPR), linking the A4130, Abingdon Road and B4016 junction to the A4130 and Hadden Hill junction.
This extension is necessary to relieve pressure on existing roads in the vicinity of the allocated housing sites of Ladygrove East and north east Didcot, in particular Abingdon Road and the Marsh Bridge roundabout, and to accommodate additional traffic generated by planned housing and economic growth in the area.
The key benefits of the scheme include;
- Community enhancement through providing an alternative to the congested local road network
- Network resilience: relieve congestion on Abingdon Road and at Marsh Bridge roundabout reducing queuing and delays in the area and the eastern approach to Didcot
- Wider economic benefits: Improvement to access to employment growth and the enterprise zone and attraction of inward investment.
The project is currently in the preliminary design stage.
Following a public consultation additional strategic and area wide traffic modelling has been identified as being required to further evaluate the size and location of the northern end roundabout and assist in confirming a preferred option for the scheme.
This traffic modelling work is still underway and we are currently expecting this modelling work to be completed in early 2019. Further design work may then need to be undertaken before a planning application is submitted.
