Your questions about the A40 Duke's Cut scheme answered

This page includes the most talked about elements of the A40 Duke's Cut scheme.

A40 Duke's Cut scheme

The scheme will provide a designated eastbound bus lane, and enhance the pedestrian and cycle provisions across the Duke's Cut structures. It will provide greater emphasis and access to sustainable travel for the local communities.

Improvements for cycling and walking

The shared-use path will be widened at the southern side, improving the access for pedestrians and cyclists along the A40 to Wolvercote Roundabout. We will provide a new link to connect with the National Cycle Route 5 and the canal path, offering a traffic-free route into Oxford.

Impact on Duke’s Cut canal services

The project is working closely with the Canal and River Trust to ensure that any disruption is kept to an absolute minimum. Closures are not envisaged, but we will advertise disruption in advance. We will keep closures to non-peak periods to minimise their impact.

Impact on the rail service

We are working closely with Network Rail to ensure that any disruption is kept to an absolute minimum. Closures as a direct result of the Duke’s Cut works are not envisaged at this time. We intend to limit any works affecting the railway to periods outside of operational hours.
