Adult reading group leader

This role involves coordinating and managing a library-based reading group to promote a love of reading. You will need to enjoy discussion and spending time with adults from all sections of the community.

Description

Purpose

  • to coordinate and manage a library-based reading group to promote a love of reading

Activities

  • arranging meetings and overseeing the running of sessions
  • acting as the liaison between the group and the Reading Group Service
  • publicising and encouraging people to join the group
  • facilitating open discussions about reading
  • being responsible for the collection, distribution and return of books
  • encouraging members to look after the books and return them in good condition
  • promoting and participating in events and activities organised by Oxfordshire Libraries

Skills and abilities needed

  • to enjoy discussion and spending time with adults from all sections of the community
  • to recognise that people have different reading abilities and interests
  • to have an active and broad interest in reading and books
  • to be a good listener and able to communicate in a friendly and helpful manner, encouraging everyone to participate
  • to ask for advice and ideas from the Reading Group Service
  • to be able to facilitate non-judgemental discussions where the differing opinions of people are respected
  • to have good organisational and communication skills
