Recycle Week 2024

Recycle Week is a national campaign to raise the awareness of recycling and increase recycling rates

Rescue Me, Recycle

Recycle Week runs from 14 to 20 October 2024 and this year has the theme "Rescue Me, Recycle”. The main aim of the campaign is to highlight common types of recyclable waste that residents often don’t recycle and ask them to “Rescue” at least one of these recyclable items from their rubbish bin.

Although Oxfordshire has the highest recycling rate of any County Council area in the country at nearly 60% around half of the average rubbish bin is made up of items that could have been recycled.

Design a Recycling Superhero to win a water bottle

For Recycle Week, we're running a Design Activity and Prize Draw for Oxfordshire residents. To take part, entrants need to design a Recycling Superhero character to rescue recyclable items from the rubbish bin.

You can enter by sending us your design until midnight on 20 October 2024.

50 entrants who submit a design will be selected at random to receive an "Oxfordshire Reuses" aluminium water bottle and some other waste reducing goodies.

If you submit your design before 14 October, we may also use it in some of our social media posts during Recycle Week to help inspire others to recycle. See the terms and conditions below for more information about this.

How to enter online

Enter by sending your picture by direct message to one of our social media channels by midnight on 20 October 2024. You can enter using the following channels:

  • @OxfordshireRecycles on Facebook
  • @OxonRecycles on X

You can also email your entry to waste.management@oxfordshire.gov.uk

Your entry should include the words “Design a Recycling Superhero” in the message or subject and must include your name and address in the message. Ask a parent/guardian to submit this for you if you're under 16.
