75th Anniversary Celebration Concert

Published 20 April 2017

In 2017 Oxfordshire County Music Service celebrates 75 years. To commemorate this, the Music Service held a concert in Symphony Hall, Birmingham, one of the world’s foremost concert venues on Saturday 25 March 2017. The concert showcased some of the most talented young musicians in Oxfordshire.

As part of this event two local composers were commissioned to write pieces. Debbie Rose’s Apollo’s Lyre, an extended piece for massed youth choirs and chamber orchestra was superbly performed by our County Choirs, as well as primary and secondary school choirs from across Oxfordshire. Nick Blake’s B’s Juke Joint was performed by the service’s massed Big Bands. The piece celebrates the communication, teamwork and shared passion for music that is at the heart of the Jazz world.

Many of the other County level ensembles took part and in total over 700 students were involved in our Celebration Concert.
