The Hill End Centre

A safe and traffic free venue to visit or stay while you learn and discover about the outdoors.

The Hill End Centre is a 65-acre site spread over a gentle south-facing hillside on the edge of Wytham Woods, Oxfordshire.

The site is managed for wildlife, with a wide diversity of habitats including chalk grassland, ponds and streams, marshland and developing woodland. The upper grassland slopes are part of the Wytham Wood Site of Special Scientific Interest. It can provide all of the natural resources for field studies and environmental education.

Residential visits

There are facilities for organised groups of any age to spend a day or stay on a residential visit at any time of the year. Once here you will find the site remarkably peaceful and an ideal location for educational, social and recreational visits.

Children's programmes

A range of activities based on different Key Stage groups, activities where a teacher or instructor organises and leads the sessions for that particular activity. There are also a variety of family events throughout the year.

Training and workshops

Various training and workshops for adults include Forest School training, outdoor First Aid and Map skills.  Courses are suitable for schools and teachers to increase the value of their school environment for use in teaching the National Curriculum. Courses are also available to the public, subject to entry requirements.

Volunteer

Hill End has many volunteering opportunities on offer, from cleaning the ponds, raking grass from the meadows, painting and decorating, to filling the bird feeders. If you are interested read more on our volunteering page.

From Cheltenham and Witney (A40)

Follow the A40 towards Oxford. At the Eynsham roundabout take road for Stanton Harcourt (B4449). At the third roundabout take the first left to Oxford (B4044). Pass over the toll bridge and through Farmoor towards Oxford. Hill End is half a mile down on the left and is clearly signposted.

From Oxford ring road (A34)

Take the exit for Swindon, Bristol and West (A420). After about half a mile take the exit for Eynsham (B4044). Turn right under the flyover. Hill End is the second drive on the right and is clearly signposted.
