Abingdon Guildhall

The Bear Room

One of our approved venues, which can be used for marriages and other civil ceremonies.

Location and special features

The Guildhall in Abingdon is located within the historic grounds of the Abbey on the banks of the River Thames.  It has three wonderful rooms steeped in history, providing you with the perfect setting for your wedding day. The Roysse room dating back to 1440 has a beautifully ornate barrel ceiling and can seat up to 90 guests.

The council chamber panelled with Spanish oak, is the room where HRH Queen Elizabeth II dined under the stunning commemorative chandeliers, during one of her visits.  This room can seat up to 100 guests

The smaller and more intimate Bear Room with its fine example of a Palladian window (considered to be the best in the country), can seat up to 30 guests.

In addition we have two more function rooms, ideal for evening receptions and other events. Please call to arrange a visit. One of our friendly staff will show you around and will do their best to answer any questions
